PLM joins the whole nation in paying respects to the observance of Eid'l Fitr by our Moslem brethren on 09 Aug 2013, which is a regular holiday by virtue of Proclamation No. 629, s. 2013.
Congrats to the team of CET-EcE scholars who landed as 1st runner-up in the 19-corner IECEP-NCR Quiz Bowl 2013 yesterday held at LPU-Manila! Advancing to the national level come November with TUP, MIT and DLSU, PLM has shown a strong prowess in the past as the revered national quiz champ defending champion yet again! We can make it once more! :)

The library staffs will attend a public lecture series entitled “What is to be Green @ your Library: Preservation of the Environment through Libraries” on July 31, 2013, Wednesday. This lecture will be held at US Embassy Manila, sponsored by Thomas Jefferson Information Center-American Spaces Philippines (TJIC-ASP) and its objective is to enlighten our library staffs about caring of our environment through greening our library.
          PLM HAS NEW PRESIDENT

Retired Justice Artemio G. Tuquero was installed as the new Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila president last July 3. Before serving the university, retired Justice Tuquero was actively involved in the academe. He was a former dean of the College of Law at University of the East (1993) and Urdaneta City University and of the School of Law at Manuel L. Quezon University (2002-Mid 2008). Tuquero was appointed as OIC and then university president of City College of Manila (now known as Unibersidad de Manila) by former Mayor Alfredo S. Lim. He guided the university for two years (2008-2010). Before finishing his four year term as dean in University of the East, former president Estrada appointed him as Associate Justice of Court of Appeals (1996). Estrada appointed him again as Department of Justice Secretary whereas his tenure lasted for a year.
President Tuquero will now be ninth PLM president, following Dr. Benito reyes, Dr. Consuelo Blanco, then Manila Mayor Ramon Bagatsing, Dr. Jose Villanueava, Dr. Benjamin Tayabas, Dr. Virsely dela Cruz, Atty. Jose RoyIII and Atty. Adel Tamano.

We’ve presented the library’s services and resources, now we will reveal the “mother” of the PLM Library—none other than, MS. FE N. HAICO, OIC-University Library.

MS. HAICO manages activities of the library, assists faculties in selection of books at book fairs, trains and guide library staffs in their performance, prepares statistical and narrative reports of activities, memoranda, and correspondence, and other task assigned to her by the top management.

Her secretary is MS. AETHELE SARANSAMAN, who handles requests for referral letters to other libraries and other clerical works assigned to her.

Midterm exams are fast approaching! Be sure to watch out for our post on our upcoming announcements regarding library polices.

We’ve enumerated the library sections for the past few days, now we will give you details about the READERS’ SERVICES.

The READERS’ SERVICES unit supervises the staffs and the operation of all services and facilities that concern the information needs of our faculty, students and outside researchers. It implements policies and procedures that manage the circulation and maintenance of all the library collections.

This unit is headed by a determined woman MS. GRACE MAURICIO and her company MS. SUSAN LEGASPI, MS. JOANA CORPUZ, MS. GRACE REYES, and MR. LEOPOLDO QUIJANO.

Tomorrow we will introduce to you the “Mother” of the PLM Library.
A pleasant morning PLMayers! We will present to you the last library section which is the “soul of the library”—the TECHNICAL SECTION.

The TECHNICAL SECTION is called the soul of the library because this is where they process new books before shelving or circulating the books. Maintenance of books such as binding and covering with plastic are also done in this area. This section is off-limits to students and faculties.

This section is headed by a gentlewoman MS. LIZA FAJARDO, and her team; MS. TESS AGUILA, MS. ANNABEL AGPOON, MS. BECKY CAPARAS., MR. RIC MADRID, and MR. BERT JUNIO. 

For the next two days, we will introduce to you the head of the Reader’s Services and our OIC of the University Library. Keep on visiting the PLM Library for more updates as the midterm exams are coming!

Today, we will present to you the GRADUATE LIBRARY.
The GRADUATE LIBRARY stores primary research collections of management, special education, and other professional books that are intended for graduate students and professional doctorates. Graduate theses and dissertations are also kept in this section. 

This section is headed by a cheerful woman MS. LOREZL GARCIA, assisted by MS. RACHEL JOAN DE GUZMAN.

Tomorrow we will feature a library section that is “the soul of the library.”

Another library section will be featured today, wherein, information about the Philippines and about the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal are stored—is the FILIPINIANA SECTION.

The FILIPINIANA SECTION stores collection of books and other resources about the Philippines authored by a Filipino or foreign writer that is published in the country or abroad. Rizal’s life and works are also put in safekeeping in this section.

This section is led by exquisite women MS. ANELLI GAIL SAMPANA, assisted by MS. OFELIA LIWANAG.

Watch out for the next library section suitable for our graduate students.
Hello everybody! It’s Friday! For most of us, it’s the last day of work for the week, while others have class schedule or work until tomorrow. The PERIODICALS SECTION is stacked with publications that are published on a periodic basis such as newspapers, magazines, journals, even the AP (Ang Pamantasan) issues. We are subscribed to 6 major broadsheets namely; Manila Bulletin, Philippine Star, Inquirer, Manila Times, Malaya, and Manila Standard. So, if you want to know about the weather today and other current issues, and the Internet Section is fully occupied, Periodicals Section is the right place for you!

This library section is led by a bubbly lady MS. MA LULU L. SALVADOR, assisted by MS. ARLA GARCIA.

We have 3 more sections to reveal next week. On Monday, we will show you the section where you can find information about our national hero—Rizal.

Today we will introduce to you the library sections at the basement of Gusaling Katipunan. In connection with the medical field, another health related library section is the HEALTH SCIENCE SECTION.

The HEALTH SCIENCE SECTION is loaded with nursing and physical therapy books to accommodate nursing and physical therapy students and faculties. Just recently, this library section passed the CHED/RQUAT (CHED Regional Quality Assurance Team) accreditation to ensure relevant and responsive programs and high quality education in the university.

This section is led by our diligent staff MS. GLORI STEPHANI ROSSINI S. SANTIAGO, assisted by MS. MARILYN MONTALLA.

Good morning PLMayer! Don’t you know that we have 2 medical libraries? The first medical library was featured yesterday and now we will show you the second medical library that is situated at Ospital ng Maynila—the PLM-OM MEDICAL LIBRARY.

The PLM-OM MEDICAL LIBRARY is a remote library which caters physicians, other health professionals, and medical students who are taking their OJT at Ospital ng Maynila. The library has computers with internet connection, higher level of medical books and journals for their reference.

This remote library section is headed by a young at heart woman, MS. FLEURDELIZ FEDERICO, assisted by MS. ROSE CRISOSTOMO.
We’re done presenting library sections at 2nd Floor, Gusaling Katipunan and a remote library at Ospital Maynila. 

Tomorrow we will show off some sections at the library basement. :)
A sunny Tuesday scholars! Don’t you know that sunlight is good for the skin until 10:00am? Exposing your skin beyond that time may lead to skin cancer and death! Where did I get that information? Where else, but at the MEDICAL LIBRARY located at 2nd Floor Gusaling Katipunan.

The Medical Library is named DR. NORMAN R. DAHL MEMORIAL MEDICAL LIBRARY in memory of Dr. Norman R. Dahl of Norwegian-American Hospital of Chicago, USA Medical Library, a civic leader and philanthropist. He donated funds to boost the medical library’s collection, equipment and other materials in order to support for a first-rate medical education in this university.

This section is headed by our dynamic duo, MS. ERLINDA BARREDO and assisted by MS. LEA ILETO.
A cold rainy morning everyone! And when it rains, it pours! Yes! We will “pour” you more information about the library and its resources. Today, we will exhibit a library section for our future lawyers, prosecutors, and even judges—this is the LAW LIBRARY.

The LAW LIBRARY houses a rich collection of law and law-related materials. This section has Lex-Libris CD-ROM for law students and professors use. Adjacent to the library is the moot court, where participants take part in simulated court proceedings and oral arguments.

Any noise or violation that you make will be taken into custody by our fearless staffs MS. EVEREST MONT assisted by MR. GENER BUSTILLOS.

Hello PLMayers! We’ve showed the Reference Section and its reference materials yesterday, now we will present the section that is equipped with computers to find information thru internet. This section is none other than, the LIBRARY INTERNET SECTION (LIS). 

The LIBRARY INTERNET SECTION is located at the Library Lobby, wherein, scholars may use the internet for FREE for 1-hour. Just present your endorsed library card to avail the service. Printing services (black & white or colored) are available at the ITC for a minimal fee.

This section is headed by our handsome guys, MR. ROGER HONORIO assisted by MR. GERALD REMIGIO.

We ‘re done at the Library Lobby, next week we’ll go to the 2nd floor and find out what library sections are there! Keep an eye on our post everyday as we showcase our library services and resources to you!
Good morning scholars! Yesterday we featured the Circulation Section and its services. 

Today we will show you the new REFERENCE SECTION. This section is housed with reference materials like dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases, almanacs, yearbooks, maps and many more. You can even borrow a globe as an instructional medium in the classroom! 
The REFERENCE SECTION is located at Library Lobby headed by ever daring MS. ARLENE RELATOR assisted by MR. MITCHELL ARREOLA.

Tomorrow we will show you the section that is most used by students. I’m sure you already know that! :)
Good day scholars! Have you visited the library lately? There are many places to study in the Library. Let's start by featuring library sections. 

Below is a picture of the CIRCULATION SECTION located at Library Lobby. The Circulation Section is the backbone of the Library. Their main services are to charge and discharge books, secure library clearance and application/endorsement of library cards. This section is headed by the ever beautiful, MS. DIANA SABADO assisted by MS. METZIE ACOSTA.
