A grandiose graduation rite was offered by PLM to the capital city's brightest scholars as a red-carpet send-off -- a fitting tribute to their indomitable spirit to hurdle arduous challenges and to master the rudiments of life.
The high repute and unsullied integrity of PLM, the prestige ascribed to its name -- Pamantasan -- is a diamond of epic proportions.
Tested by time, "Pamantasan" has evolved into a powerful brand name with Excellence as its birthright -- unscathed by any scorching fire and unperturbed by any vilification.
The PLM phenomenon -- secure on its pedestal. Then, now and beyond.

MANILA – Two state universities, University of the Philippines and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, head the Top 11 list of the nation's best schools for doctors, consistently scoring a 100 percent passing performance in board examinations.
The list was drawn up by the House committee on higher and technical education based on the outstanding performance of their graduates in the last two Physician Licensure Examinations administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). Besides UP and PLM, a third state university made it to the list, on No. 8, West Visayas State University in La Paz, Iloilo.
Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo, committee chairman, identified the top producers of would-be medical doctors as follows (with the percentage of their examinees passing the last two professional eligibility tests in brackets):
1. University of the Philippines-Manila (100%);
2. Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (100%);
3. Ateneo de Manila University (100%);
4. Cebu Institute of Medicine (100%);
5. University of Santo Tomas (98.88%);
6. University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (96.80%);
7. Cebu Doctors’ University (95.74%);
8. West Visayas State University-La Paz (95.29%);
9. Xavier University-Cagayan de Oro (93.94%);
10. Cagayan State University-Tuguegarao (86.36%); and
11. University of St. La Salle-Bacolod (85.71%).
Citing PRC statistics, Romulo said at least 80 percent of the examinees who graduated from these 11 schools passed the last two Physician Licensure Examinations.
Romulo’s panel has been publicizing the best performing universities for every program as a public service,  so as to help consumers -- students and their parents -- decide where they will likely get the best value for college tuition payments.
Commission on Higher Education records show that the country has 38 higher institutions of learning accredited to train prospective doctors.
According to the PRC, some 74.65 percent, or 2,259 out of 3,026 examinees, passed the Physician Licensure Examinations in February 2014 and August 2013.
